Every Child mobilizes community to uplift children & families impacted by foster care.
Every Child strives to increase the recruitment and retention of families who are willing to open their home to children in crisis. The strategy invites people to contribute to the need in their community by supplying tangible goods or services, volunteering, or caring for a child. By providing simple ways to engage, community members who likely never would have become foster (resource) parents are now interacting with child welfare in meaningful ways.
Foster or Adoption Inquiries
In Oregon, Every Child’s 2022 earned foster or adoption inquiries increased, with the total number being 1,589. This is a 12.4% increase from 2021 (1,414 inquiries)
Inquiries self-identified as people of color or multiracial
It’s essential to have strategic, ideal placements for children who are in the foster care system. In 2022, 35% of Every Child foster and adoption inquiries in 2022 were individuals who self-identified as people of color or multiracial.
Engaged Community Members
Every Child mobilized 2,341 community members to engage with their local Child Welfare system in 2022, either by volunteering their time or meeting a tangible need for families impacted by foster care.
In February of 2020, Former Assistant Secretary of the Administration for Children and Families, Lynn Johnson, brought her team from Washington DC to learn more about the scaling power of Every Child Oregon.
She said: “If I could clone what you’re doing here, I’d clone it in 50 states, and in the territories and with the (Native American) tribes. You’ve created something unique and impressive. I’m amazed.” Read More.
We are answering that call by opening The Contingent branch offices in two states in 2023 – Arkansas and Indiana – with the first initiatives of those branch offices being Every Child.
Launched in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Contingent created a way for neighbors to help neighbors by donating tangible good. My Neighbor mobilizes community members to meet the unique, pressing, and tangible needs of families.
